A self-described “DIY, eco-friendly, made-in-the-USA chick who has hung plenty of drywall,” Anitra Mecadon grew up with a love of home improvement and how things are made because her family was in the construction industry.
Highly charismatic, on the cutting edge, and not afraid to get her hands dirty, Mecadon has designed some of the most well-known, hip and edgy restaurants, residences, boutiques, galleries and other spaces in Atlanta. With a strong background in art and theater, combined with a degree in interior design, she creates inspiring interiors and exteriors. She also has a rock ‘n’ roll approach not usually found in most designers.
On DIY Network’s Mega Dens, she designs and helps build the ultimate rec room sanctuaries that exceed any family’s imagination. Her room renovations feature incredible home theaters, innovative gaming areas, clever storage solutions and more – and she understands the importance of using the right drywall at the beginning of a project to provide performance, value and peace of mind that lasts. Her show is part of DIY Network’s Blog Cabin.
Mecadon also is passionate about repurposing and reusing furniture and materials, loves color – especially purple – is comfortable with tools, and is a devoted animal lover.
In 2013, she became the spokesperson for National Gypsum’s Purple family of products.
